Police will be cracking down on 69 Hwy in Overland Park.

Do you have a lead foot?  Well don't say you weren't warned.  This  story aired last night on the news (KCTV5) about the confusing mess that is I69 in Overland Park.  I69 in Overland Park has been under construction for what seems like forever and all that road work confuses people that aren't familiar with the area.  When people get confused they slow down and that causes traffic.  When there is traffic people are trying to get out of traffic and often will speed.  Speeding causes cops. Cops cause speeding tickets.






Like the story said the police will be ramping up efforts to patrol the area more.  I checked this morning and rest assured there were two Overland Park Police cruisers, one on each side of the road,  close to the 103rd street exit.

Looks like the Overland Park PD is keeping their word.  So if your driving through that area remember to slow down and obey the speed limit.  Overland Park municipal prosecutors will not amend tickets in a construction zone.  If you get a ticket in a construction zone in Overland Park its a trial or a guilty plea, thats it.

Deputy Pulls Over Speeding Car, Finds Drugs, Money Inside

EAGLE, Colo. (CBS4)-
Two people were arrested after drugs and money was allegedly found in their car when they were pulled over for speeding on Interstate 70.  An Eagle County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over Erin Colove and Chase Esrich Sunday on I-70 near Eagle. The deputy said the rental car was traveling 97 mph in a posted 75 mph zone. There also was a child in the car. Colove, 25, is from Olathe and Esrich, 22, is from Alton, Mo. The deputy found more than a pound of high grade marijuana and more than $40,000 in the car.

Suspect statements show that the money came from drug transactions. Colove and Esrich were charged with child abuse, possession of more than 12 ounces of marijuana and speeding. The Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting with the investigation.

Car pulled over for speeding yields large pot bust

EAGLE COUNTY - Two people are charged with child abuse after they were pulled over for speeding near Eagle, Colorado. The traffic stop did not just get them a speeding ticket for going 97 mph in a 75-mph zone. On Sunday morning, an Eagle County Sheriff's deputy pulled over a rental car on Interstate 70. The driver, later identified as Erin Colove, 25, of Olathe, Kans., and the passenger, later identified as Chase Eschrich, 22, of Alton, Mo., had over a pound of high-grade marijuana in the car. They also discovered $40,000 in the car. According to the suspects, they say they got this money from drug transactions. Colove and Eschrich were also charged with child abuse because there was a child in the car at the time when they were pulled over.

What to do when you go to court on a speeding ticket.

When you are given a traffic ticket or speeding ticket in Kansas here are the things that you need to know about going to court.

1. The speeding ticket usually has a summons on the bottom and there is a date that you are required to go to court on to address the speeding ticket.
A. Having to go to work is not a reason to miss court.
B. Having to go to school is not a reason to miss court.
C. Getting married is not a reason to miss court.
D. Graduation is not a reason to miss court.
E. There are only two valid reasons to miss court.  YOU’RE DEAD or your IN JAIL

One of the worst things you can do is miss court!
If you miss court then one or many of these things will happen.
1. You will have a bench warrant issued.
2. Your license will be suspended.
3. You will be assessed an additional fee.
4. You will have to pay an appearance bond to get a new court date.
5. You will make the prosecutor angry with you.
6. You will make the judge angry with you.

2. You need to dress appropriately.
You need to dress in a way that puts your best foot forward in a courtroom.  You need to wear clothes that fit you and wear them as they are intended to be worn.  If you show respect to the court in your attire then the court will show respect to you.

Things NOT to wear.
1. Don't wear a hat in the courtroom.
2. Don't wear clothes that have any words on them.
3. Don't wear T-shirts.
4. Don't wear shorts.
5. Don't wear clothes that are several sizes to big.
6. Don't wear anything in your hair.
7. Don't wear bandannas
8. Don't wear excessive amounts of large jewelry.
9. Don't wear flip flops.

3. Don't expect anyone to help you.
Court Staff
It’s a harsh statement but it’s true.  Court staff are overworked and underpaid.  Remember when you go into a courtroom it is not anyone’s job to help you or guide you or give you information.  There is no person that is employed by the court to tell you what to do or to where to go.  Helping you is what attorneys do. 

Attorneys you haven't hired
Don't come up to an attorney that you haven't hired and expect them to help you.  Don't expect an attorney you haven't hired to give you any information at all.  There are some attorneys that will point you in the right direction or give you some information.  You need to think of it like this, when attorneys are in court they are working and its not their responsibility to help you.  If you are an auto mechanic you’re not going to tell someone step by step how to fix their car unless they pay you.  Same goes with attorneys.  For the most part attorneys do not care what your problem is unless you pay them to care.

4. You need to remember where you are.
A court room is not a democracy; it is not a place where you have the same amount of power as everyone else.  A court room is not the workplace, or school, or playground.  It is a serious place.  People go jail, people have to pay large sums of money, both good and bad things happen.  You need to remember where you are and act accordingly. 

Things you should not do.
1. Act up.
2. Cuss.
3. Talk on a Cell phone.
4. Have a cell phone on in any fashion.
5. Talk loudly.
6. Pick up women.
7. Disrespect anyone.

5. Be polite to everyone.
The smartest thing you can do when you go into any court is be polite and respectful to everyone.  In the hallway be polite and respectful.  In the lobby be polite and respectful.  In the courtroom be polite and respectful.  In the parking lot outside the courtroom be polite and respectful.  Be polite and respectful to court staff.

You never know who has the power in the courtroom until it is too late.  The difference between being polite and respectful to someone in the parking lot can make a huge difference in the outcome of your case.

Look to Reviews when you are hiring an Attorney.

Brandon was very helpful, he got my ticket amended when no other Lawyer said it could be done because I was going 26 over. The price was cheap and he sent me back a copy of the reciept from the court the same day I was supposed to go. I would recommend and go back if I have any more speeding ticket troubles.

Honest and Sincere!!! I consulted Mr. Davies about a recent speeding ticket in Lenexa, Kansas. He asked me a few questions before doing research on my situation with that particular municipality. HONEST and HELPFUL! Mr. Davies was extremely helpful when I called him today. I was certain I would have to pay twice my speeding fine ($255*2) plus an attorneyfee ($80) to ammend my ticket in Olathe , KS. Brandan gave me some advise, and suggested calling my insurance company before having it ammended, with the thought that even an increased premium for 3 years would cost less than ($255 + 255 + 80 = $590). Turns out my premium wouldn't go up for another year, and by that time, an old ticket would have rolled off my driving record resulting in NO increase in premium! Brandan, thank you so much for saving me $335, even though you didn't earn a penny. Most attorney's would have charged at least $100 fee and never suggested any other options... I know this, as I spoke to 3 others before calling you :) Thanks again!

A Good and Honest attorney Brandon is a great honest guy. I got a ticket and he coached me on what I should do to get it taken care off so that it wouldn't go on my driving record. Other attorneys I called wanted $400 to $600 to take care of a $160 ticket, he only charged $80, which is pretty reasonable for a ticket of that price. Nice, Reasonable, and Accommodating Mr. Davies was very easy to work with. I had a speeding ticket in Olathe and he helped me with it. does what he says I got 2 tickets in Kansas City, KS last week. One was a speeding ticket and one was a traffic ticket for running a red light. I tried him out because he said he'd only charge me $80 as his fee for both of the tickets (I usually pay over $100 with other lawyers I've gone through in the past). He did what he said and got it taken care of so I didn't get points off my license. He got it done quickly so I have no complaints.
